The Contact Lens Process

The Eye Exam

Before we can fit the right contact lenses for you, you must first have an eye exam. Eye exams look for conditions that may affect which type of contacts you can wear and their prescription.

Certain eye conditions and environmental factors can make it difficult to wear traditional contact lenses, including:

Keratoconus
Dry eyes
Frequent eye infections
Being in a dusty, dirty, or smokey environment

When you book your appointment, please let our team know if you’re looking for a contact lens exam, and we’ll have everything arranged for you before you arrive.

The Contact Lens Fitting

To ensure your contacts are comfortable, we have to take several different measurements of your eyes. These measurements can assess your tear film quality as well as the shape and size of your cornea, iris, and pupil.

There are many different types of contact lenses, and each one can address a different condition to ensure your eyes see clearly and comfortably. Some of the most common contact lens types we fit include:

Taking Care of Your Contacts & Trial

Once we help determine which contact lenses are best for you and your needs, we’ll teach you how to take care of them and store them.

Wearing contacts while you sleep, reusing contact lens solution, and cleaning your contacts with water can increase the chance of developing an eye infection, so please follow your optometrists’ instructions carefully.

At the end of your appointment, we’ll provide you with a trial pair and book a follow-up appointment in about a week. If your eyes start to become irritated, red, or excessively teary, please remove them and contact us as soon as possible.
